Hi @Shall3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I see that you are facing an issue with a few colors missing while printing from your printer.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

How do I remove the cartridges - it is a tank printer

HP Recommended

Hi @Shall3,

Thanks for confirming.

Let me guide you through the steps to remove and install the cartridges in your HP Smart Tank Plus 651 printer.

  • Turn on the printer – Make sure your printer is powered on before starting the process.
  • Open the ink tank access door – Lift the top cover of the printer to access the ink tanks.
  • Locate the ink cartridges – Find the ink tank section where the cartridges are inserted.
  • Remove the cartridge:
    • Gently grasp the cartridge by its sides.
    • Pull it straight up and out of the ink tank compartment.
    • If needed, tilt it slightly to remove it carefully.
    • Place the old cartridge aside – Store it properly if it’s still usable or prepare it for recycling.

If you are installing new cartridges, follow the below steps.

  • Remove the packaging and protective tape from the new ink cartridge.
  • Insert the cartridge:
    • Align it with the correct color-coded slot.
    • Carefully push it down until it clicks securely into place.
  • Close the ink tank access door – Lower the printer cover securely.
  • Allow the printer to initialize – The printer will recognize the new cartridge and may prompt for alignment.
  • Print a test page – To ensure the installation was successful and ink is flowing properly.

  • Always use genuine HP ink to avoid compatibility issues.
  • Avoid touching the nozzle and electrical contacts to prevent ink flow issues.
  • If prompted, follow the on-screen alignment instructions for optimal print quality.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Why would you recommend removing cartridges from a smart tank printer? The whole point is to not have cartridges. Support for this product is terrible, I hope the design and support is improved.
