I'm struggling to get my HP Smart Tank 7001 to print yellow again. Things I've tried:

Align printhead tool from app

Clean printhead tool from app

Manually pulled out the color printhead, inspected it, and put it back

Confirmed the yellow ink indicator reads more than half full

Test pages print without a trace of yellow ink. I see a bubble in the yellow ink line but haven't found a way to move it.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi @Xyliava,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a common issue where the yellow ink isn’t being printed despite the ink level being sufficient and performing various troubleshooting steps. Here’s a detailed guide to help you resolve the issue with your HP Smart Tank 7001:

1. Check for Air Bubbles

Remove the Yellow Ink Cartridge:

  • Turn off the printer and open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove the yellow ink cartridge from the printer.

Inspect the Ink Line:

  • Check the yellow ink line for any visible air bubbles or clogs. If you see an air bubble, it may be causing the issue.

Purge Air Bubbles:

  • Gently tap or shake the cartridge to help move the bubble towards the ink reservoir.
  • Reinsert the cartridge and print a test page to see if the issue is resolved.

2. Perform a Manual Ink Cartridge Cleaning

Clean the Ink Cartridge:

  • Moisten a lint-free cloth or paper towel with warm water.
  • Gently wipe the ink cartridge’s printhead with the moistened cloth to remove any dried ink.

Clean the Printer Contacts:

  • Use a dry, lint-free cloth to gently clean the contacts inside the printer where the ink cartridges make contact.

3. Perform an Ink System Reset

Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Reset Ink System:

  • Some HP printers have a specific procedure to reset the ink system. Consult the user manual or HP Support for the exact steps for your model.

4. Reinstall the Ink Cartridge

Reinsert the Ink Cartridge:

  • Remove and reinsert the yellow ink cartridge to ensure it is properly seated.

Print a Test Page:

  • Print a test page or a color calibration page to see if the yellow ink is now being used correctly.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Go to the HP Support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your HP Smart Tank 7001.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply, but I'm confused by the description of a yellow ink cartridge. Since this is a tank/reservoir model, I don't think it has ink cartridges.
