I am very very unhappy with HP- unauthorized enrollment in instant ink last June caught in December 2023 and now cartridges purchased at Costco are de-authorized and trying to force me to purchase new ones. Won't allow connection to even chat help. Will plan legal action if they don't un-brick my 8020 printer. I see there are class action lawsuits against HP so must be a widespread issue affecting others

Hi @peterdor,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Are you still enrolled in the instant ink program?
If not, here's what you need to know & do:
If you have an instant ink cartridge on your printer, remove it and discard that, you can only use regular cartridges on your printer once you cancel the program.
That said, if you have trouble using regular cartridges, I recommend you turn off the web service using the steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04808536
when done successfully, check if it works fine.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

HP didn't brick your printer, they bricked your third party ink cartridges. I don't agree with that practice either, but being over-dramatic just makes you less credible. If your printer was bricked then you would have to throw it away and buy a new one. That's what the term "bricked" means.

No, HP probably did brick his printer, just like they bricked mine when I discovered that my printer, using GENUINE HP ink cartridges won't print...because the cartridges are "out of date". And the fresh set of GENUINE HP cartridges I purchased several months ago are also "out of date". I have about $150 of wasted money sitting on my desk, because HP put a gun to my head to subscribe to an ink purchase deal.
I've had this 7740 printer for quite a few years, spending around $75 a set for GENUINE HP ink cartridges, but apparently I wasn't spending enough.
So now instead of doing productive work, I'm squandering my time trying to figure our how to downgrade my firmware, because I don't want to piss away money for another set of cartridges only to discover that my printer is still bricked when I put them in.
Fortunately, there are other manufacturers that sell printers.
