HP PhotoSmart D7260 printer Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan
Why has HP effectively made this printer obsolete by no longer making ink cartridges for it. And what makes it even more frustrating is hp won't allow owners to use refilled OEM cartridges. I have scoured the internet trying to find ways to defeat the cartridge protection bug in this printer to no avail. I would continue to use this printer if I could find a workaround. I can’t say that I will ever buy another HP product if I can’t depend on them longterm.

HP no longer offers HP 02, 177, 363, and 801 ink cartridges used in PhotoSmart 3110, 3210, 3310, 8250, C5180, C6180, C6280, C7180, C8100, D6160, D7160, D7260, C7280, D7360, D7460 printers. Thus purposely making all these printers obsolete. Beyond planned obsolesce, this is a deliberate ploy by an industry giant coercing consumers into needlessly purchasing new products. HP has made my PhotoSmart printer obsolete plus adding the frustration of not allowing third party replacement ink cartridges to be installed in these printers. Greedy HP is essentially "bricking" these printers and turning them into landfill waste. Needless to say I will not be purchasing any new HP products and I will share my HP experience with others.

HP just wants to sell more printers.  I won't be purchasing a new hp printer because they have no longevity. They've probably lost a lot of customers just judging by the complaints I have read on the internet.

I agree. My ENVY 4500 will not accept genuine HP cartridges now although still available in my case.

They cannot be contacted for an answer.

Support is from a robot that has no answers to the problem you describe.

I suspect that firmware has been updated without my authority to make me by a new printer.

Goodbye HP as far as I'm concerned.

Can anyone on the forums  help me with a link to the  HP firmware update that removes the dynamic security feature. HP photosmart D7260 firmware. HP no longer supports this model and there is no firmware available from the website. I think somebody out there might have a link to it.
