I have aligned my printer heads and cleaned them well using the software.  Printer ink for color and black are at good levels.

When printing a page it is cutting off half a line across the page or a complete line in 2 or 3 spaces in a one page print.  I am printing from a PDF if this matters and the font is small, but printer prints most of the data except what I noted.

Hi @MChang1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing printing issues where parts of the text are either cut off or not printed entirely when printing from a PDF file. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the problem:

  1. Check PDF Settings:
    • Ensure that you are printing the PDF using the "Fit to Page" or "Shrink Oversized Pages" option to avoid cutting off text. This option is usually available in the Print dialog box under Page Sizing & Handling.

  2. Ensure Proper Page Size:
    • Verify that the page size setting in your print setup matches the size of the paper loaded in the printer. Mismatched settings can lead to content being cut off.

  3. Update Printer Drivers:
  4. Test Other PDF Files:
    • Try printing a different PDF to see if the issue is specific to the file you’re printing. If it's file-specific, the original PDF might have formatting issues.

  5. Print From a Different Application:
    • Attempt to print the PDF using another application, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, to determine if the issue persists across different viewers.

  6. Adjust Print Quality:
    • Sometimes, lowering the print quality setting in printer properties can help in reducing such issues.

  7. Firmware Update:
    • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date by checking on the HP website or using the HP Smart app.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the issue of incomplete or cut-off text in your printouts. If the issue persists after trying these suggestions, consider reaching out to HP Support for further assistance.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @MChang1,

Thank you for the update, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share the outcome.

We’re glad to hear that you were able to identify the root cause of the issue. A defective black ink cartridge can certainly lead to unexpected printing problems, and replacing it is the correct resolution in this case.

If you notice any further issues or if you’d like us to check warranty or replacement options for the cartridge, please feel free to reach out. We’re always here to help.

Thanks again for keeping us informed, and happy printing!
