I have an OfficeJet Pro 8710 that I have use 952 toner cartridges for years.  My black and magenta were depleted. So I opened a brand new box that I had on hand, installed the 952xl black, and regular size 952 magenta.  The printer displays an error stating, "This cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer.  It can still be used with some older printer models."

Why is this?  I've used these for years and now I have $75 worth of new catridges and they won't work all of a sudden.  Thes are genuine HP cartridges.

Someone, please help!  Thanks!!!

HP changed the design of the cartridges used in your printer and updated the firmware to reject the old generation cartridges.  See the document here for information. In my opinion HP should replace any genuine HP cartridges that are giving the Old Generation Cartridge error.
