I have a HP Officejet 8600 Series printer with a new HP CM 751- 80013 - A printhead using HP 951 ink cartridges.    I believe that the printhead and ink cartridges are correct for my printer.  However, the HP 951 ink cartridges will not physically click and attach into the HP printhead slots, no matter what I do.  I I have tried a new pinterhead and new HP and off brand ink cartridges and still have the same non-connect issue.   It seems there is a physical incompatibility.  Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi @DFWG1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already done a lot of troubleshooting. If the ink cartridges won't click into the printhead despite trying different cartridges and printheads, here are a few additional steps you might consider:

Inspect for Obstructions: Check the printhead and cartridge slots for any small obstructions or debris that might be preventing a proper connection.

Check Cartridge and Printhead Compatibility: Double-check that the printhead and cartridges are indeed compatible with your specific model of the HP Officejet 8600 Plus. Sometimes even minor differences can cause issues.

Align Printhead and Cartridges: Make sure that the printhead is correctly seated and aligned in the carriage. It should be firmly in place and not wobbling.

Reset Printer: Perform a full reset of the printer. This can sometimes resolve hardware recognition issues. To reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait about 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure your printer's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues. Update the firmware on an HP printer

Verify Ink Cartridge Placement: When installing the cartridges, make sure they are oriented correctly and fully inserted. They should click into place with a firm press.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for all of your suggestions.  I have tried everything without success, including duct taping the ink cartridges to the printhead.  Although the printer can now physically function, there are error messages regarding a missing printhead or ink cartridges.  The printer belongs to a friend and I'm now assuming that the printheads that were purchased are incompatible with her printer, although the HP model numbers appear correct.  In any case, I don't think operating with duct taped ink cartridges or buying another printhead is beneficial and have given up on the printer.  I do appreciate all of your help.
