Trying to register my HP Envy printer for HP Ink but get Unable to register the printer to your account!  For several years I have used it for my now-defunct Deskjet 3630 but now need to replace it with my ENVY 1000.    How can I register the latter or must I revert to outside suppliers for ink?

Hi @BrianJoyce,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering difficulties with registering your HP ENVY printer for HP Instant Ink due to the "Unable to register the printer to your account" error, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Internet Connection:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to the internet. Printers enrolled in HP Instant Ink need an active internet connection to communicate with Instant Ink services.

Verify HP Web Services:

  • Make sure that HP Web Services are enabled. This is crucial for registering your printer.

Account Verification:

  • Sign in to your HP Instant Ink account or the HP Smart app to verify that your account details are correct and that the printer is active.

Printer and Account Compatibility:

  • Confirm that your HP ENVY model is compatible with HP Instant Ink. Some printer models may not be supported.

Remove Previous Printer(s):

  • If you have previous printers registered to your account, consider removing them to avoid conflicts. You can do this by logging into your HP Instant Ink account and managing your devices.

Retry Registration:

  • Attempt to register the ENVY printer again by following the HP Smart app setup instructions.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for trying, Jerry, but so far, not so good.   I've even tried removing HPSmart from my Pc apps and then reinstalling it but after following the instructions to apply the Envy printer, all went well until the final Unable to register, etc.  The Envy appears to be recognised by HP in all other respects.  When I open HPSmart, it shows the Envy as being my printer.   All I want is for HPSmart to do its job of maintaining supply of ink when it 'sees' the need arising!  Plenty left at present but will I need to go elsewhere for replacing cartridges later on next year?

Hello Jerry,

I'm not sure that the number of my current printer is applicable here.  The problem seems to be that HPInk have still got my old Deskjet 3630 registered and it's that which is interfering with my attempts to register my Envy 6000.  I can't seem to get the Deskjet removed from HPInk.  I have now ordered a couple of cartridges from elsewhere but I would like to, eventually, get back into the HPInk system.  However, another possible/probable matter is now impending.  If HPInk won't de-register the Deskjet, which seems to be the case, they are continuing to bill me each month even though they no longer are supplying inks!

As things stand, because I cannot get my Envy 6000 registered in spite of HP having recognised it (per HP Smart for instance),  I have given up on HP Inks for more immediate future supply and have purchased elsewhere.  However, if the situation gets resolved, I will be glad to  rejoin HP INK for future attention.

Hello, Jerry 57. Thanks for the help so far.  Can I ask for some further assistance ?

The Envy 6000 seems to be recognised now  insofar as It has accepted the new cartridges and is making an effort to print.  Unfortunately the prints are awful  A page of typed material is correctly shown but each line of type is heavily overprinted with what looks like attempts to redact the type.  I have tried Smart cleaning etc. but it hasn't solved the problem.  Any ideas, please?
