HP label Ink Cartridge 63XL does not fit HP 5252 Office Jet Printer

I have been using the large capacity ink cartridge No. 63XL for my HP 5252 Office Jet Printer. Ran out of ink. Purchased another HP brand 63XL cartridge. It does not fit the printer. Also have been using these without the tricolor ink cartridge (empty bay) for a year now. All of a sudden not only does the 63XL cartridge not FIT the printer but the printer error message is that a cartridge is "missing." HELP!! I cannot afford to buy a new printer (and this one's not that old!)
