It's frustrating when new cartridges are not recognized by your printer. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 not recognizing the HP 950 and 950XL cartridges.

 

  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and cartridges.
  • Clean Cartridge Contacts: Turn off the printer and remove the cartridges. Clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall Cartridges: After cleaning, reinstall the cartridges securely into the printer.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, updates can address cartridge recognition issues.
  • Check Cartridge Packaging: Verify that you removed all packaging tapes or seals from the cartridges before installation.
  • Reset the Printer: Perform a hard reset of the printer. This typically involves unplugging the power cord from the printer while it is still on, waiting for about 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

 

These steps should help resolve the issue of your HP 8600 not recognizing the new HP 950 and 950XL cartridges.
