@Wynnecrest, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding "Cartridge Missing" Issue on HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e is displaying a "Cartridge Missing" error, even after you've installed a new black cartridge, follow these troubleshooting steps to address the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Ensure that the new cartridge is the correct model and compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the new cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging that may not have been removed.
  • Reinsert the cartridge into the correct slot, ensuring it snaps into place securely.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Remove the cartridge and gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and the printer with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab slightly moistened with distilled water.
  • Reinsert the cartridge and plug the printer back in.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn the printer back on.

Use Genuine HP Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges may not work correctly with HP printers.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi

Cartridge is a genuine HP cartridge.  Bought a new cartridge and printer accepts this cartridge.

Tried the instruction, you have given - it does not work

@Wynnecrest, Thanks for the update, and I’m sorry to hear the issue is still persisting despite using a genuine HP cartridge.

Since the printer accepts a new cartridge, the issue could be with the original cartridge itself—possibly a defective chip or contact. Here’s what I suggest next:

Try inserting the original cartridge into a different slot (if it's a combo printer) just to check for any recognition.

Double-check for any smudges or damage on the copper contacts of the cartridge—sometimes even a tiny fingerprint can cause detection issues.

If possible, test that same cartridge in another compatible printer, just to isolate the issue.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
