Hello everyone,

I’m having an issue with my HP Photosmart 5520 printer. The device is always connected to the internet. Yesterday, after a long period of inactivity, I replaced the ink cartridges with third-party (non-original) ones. Since then, the printer has displayed the following error:

“Cartridge Problem. One or more cartridges are missing or damaged. Install or replace the affected cartridges.”

I’ve checked the installation and reseated the cartridges, but the issue persists.

I use macOS.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Sorry, you will need to contact your supplier for warranty information for the non-HP cartridges.

Is there a known method to bypass the cartridge lock on third-party cartridges?

The printer display is frozen, so I’m also wondering if there’s a way to perform a remote reset.

I’ve read that a firmware downgrade might solve the issue, but I haven’t been able to find the appropriate files or instructions.

The folks here have no way of knowing about your cartridges. You will need to contact your dealer for replacement information.
