Just refilled my ink cartridges before leaving for the holidays. I've returned home and my printer is suddenly printing blank pages. It looked like it was trying to print initially, but now there is nothing. I live alone, so the printer has not been used.

Hi @Monica600,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP printer is printing blank pages after refilling the ink cartridges. Here are several steps you can take to resolve the issue:

Check Ink Levels and Venting:

  • Verify that the ink cartridges are correctly installed and the ink levels are adequate.
  • Inspect the cartridge’s vent area for clogs. If there is adhesive blocking the vent, gently clean it using a straight pin or paperclip.

Run a Printhead or Cartridge Clean:

  • Using the printer control panel, navigate to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead or Clean Cartridge. This process can help clear any clogged nozzles that might be obstructing the ink flow.

Try a Manual Printhead Cleaning:

  • Remove the printhead if possible and gently clean it using a lint-free cloth and distilled water. Dab gently to remove any dried ink.

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it on.

Check for Updated Firmware:

  • Visit the Official HP® Support to check if your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. An outdated firmware can affect printer performance.

Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges as non-HP cartridges can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

Leave the Printer Overnight:

  • Sometimes air in the ink system or pigment settling can cause issues. Letting the printer sit overnight with the cartridges installed can help rectify this.

Inspect and Align Printheads:

  • Run the alignment utility from your printer’s menu. This aligns the printheads and can improve print quality.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
