The box for the 956XL cartridge clearly states on the side that it's compatible with the OfficeJet 8710 printer, but I'm seeing reports online that at least some firmware revisions of the 8710 don't support this cartridge. Since it says on the box that it's supported, I'm assuming there's some later firmware that enables support. Does anyone know which firmware it is or otherwise how to enable support for the 956XL in the OfficeJet 8710?

Or is this a printing error on the box, and the cartridge doesn't actually work in all the printers that are listed as compatible on the side of the cartridge box?

I understand that the 956XL is not on the list of supported cartridges for the printer, but why is it on the list of supported printers for the cartridge? I purchased the cartridge, because the packaging on the cartridge indicated it would work with my printer. I knew it wasn't on the list of cartridges supported by the printer when I bought it, but I thought that just meant there was probably a later firmware update that added support for the 956XL and the list of supported cartridges on the printer's specs page wasn't ever updated to reflect the change.

Perhaps I've just set my expectations too high, but I'm more than a little disappointed that I bought an official $60 USD HP cartridge that, as per the side of the packaging that HP designed and placed the cartridge into, is compatible with my printer, only to later find out that, also as per HP, is not actually compatible with my printer.

Under warranty for inks, you can swap for a right one or get your money back
