I canceled my hp ink subscription for my hp envy 5055 that I didn’t realize I was auto paying for years. I have never received an ink cartridge refill via mail and have replaced my ink cartridges with in store purchases. Now that I’ve canceled my hp ink subscription it is saying that my cartridges will no longer be usable. How do I make sure that my cartridges that were never a part of the subscription continue to work?

Hi @sunnerstar1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

When you cancel HP Instant Ink, the subscription-based cartridges are designed to stop working immediately, regardless of ink levels. To fix this, you must remove all Instant Ink cartridges and replace them with standard, store-bought HP ink cartridges. Your printer will then work, as it requires non-subscription cartridges to function after cancellation.

Here is how to ensure your printer works with your in-store purchased cartridges:

  • Remove Instant Ink Cartridges: Take out any cartridges sent by HP, as these are likely still registered to the canceled subscription.
  • Install Retail Cartridges: Purchase and install standard, non-subscription HP ink cartridges (e.g., standard or XL packs from a store).
  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn the printer off, unplug it for 30 seconds, and turn it back on. This clears the memory of the previous subscription cartridges.
  • Disable Web Services (Optional): If the printer still acts as if it is on a subscription, you may need to disable "Web Services" via the printer's network settings to stop it from communicating with HP servers.

Your Envy 5055 will function normally once it detects that the installed cartridges are not "Instant "Ink"-labeled cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

I'm an HP Employee.
