When I try to install a genuine HP 61 black ink cartridge in my HP Envy 4500 printer I get the message “Incompatible cartridge(s). The Indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer.”
I’ve tried this now with multiple genuine, new HP 61 cartridges and still get the same message. Previously I was using HP 301 cartridges but these have been discontinued.
Is there anything I can do? I would like to avoid buying a new printer if at all possible.

Are you living in the US?
Are the printer and the ink cartridges bought in the same country?
This model printer uses HP 61 ink cartridges in the US and HP 301 ink cartridges in the European region. If you have moved from Europe to the US with the printer, we will have to perform a region reset.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.
I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.
