Product: HP OfficeJet 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One

My ancient  7610 has done good service on a variety of non HP and out of date HP print cartridges for years.

All colours were low (being Genuine HP 933 XL cartridges) but the black was also low ( a bootleg 932 XL cartridge) .

The message

" Printer Failure" 

There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn the printer off and on.

If this problem persists contact HP.

 

Having restarted / disconnected (multiple times) / reinstalled things /gone to online help / and every other available topic I finally stumbled across a topic on HP Community which the user solved for him / herself despite the "experts" input. Their post appears to be in 2019 with a new printer and cartridges.

I replaced all the cartridges with Genuine HP ( luckily I'd got some out of date ones off e bay on order at the time of this problem) and it scratched it's head for a bit and then it said that a cartridge was missing but gave the long absent main screen back and allowed printing. All the test prints I have now done are good.

Worth a try if you are desperate for something to try.
