HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Purchased HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 in Nov 2017 in Reno.

Installed HP 952XL replacement color ink cartridges this month and got message saying "The indicated cartridge is an older generation cartridge that does not work in your printer.  It can still be used with some older printer models."

These replacement 952XL color ink cartridges were purchased in a bundle at Office Depot, a couple of years after the printer purchase.  The individual cartridges show Made in Malaysia, and warranties on them end 2019/12 for the Magenta, 2020/01 for Cyan, and 2019/12 for Yellow.

I was not aware that legitimate HP ink cartridges have an expiration date and can't be used after a certain date.

I have just now purchased 3 more color ink cartridges from the online HP store.

How do I get my money back for the incompatible HP 952XL cartridges that I purchased for my printer?

Also, do the 952XL color cartridges I purchased from the online HP store become unusable after a certain future date?

Each cartridge has an expiration date after which is very likely that cartridges will not be accepted.  If you buy fresh stock of cartridges they have an expiration of around 2 years.
So if you buy in 2022 new cartridge expiration date should be in 2024.
