Hi, I'm having big issues with my 9730e printer; it turns off the connection and has to reconnect. I can't print in black only when blue and yellow are out. The pace of this machine is like the old hookups to the internet, even though we are on satellite feeds. Waiting over 10 days for ink is a joke, and I've hardly had it for a month.
How can I stop it turning itself off and print a document in black?

Hi @Sarahconnors,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We completely understand how disheartening this experience with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9730e has been, especially when you just want to get things done. You're right to expect reliability and flexibility from a new printer, not delays and disconnections. We're here, and we can help.
To stop the printer from turning itself off (Sleep or Auto-Off):
On the Printer Screen:
- Tap the gear icon (⚙️) to open Settings.
- Go to Power Management or Preferences.
- Adjust or disable Sleep Mode and Auto-Off options so it stays awake when you need it.
This helps maintain a stable connection, especially helpful if you’re on satellite internet, which can have variable latency.
By design, the HP Officejet Pro 9730e Wide Format All-in-One Printer requires all cartridges (including colour) to have ink, even if you're only printing in black. This is due to how it maintains the printhead.
If you are using HP Instant Ink, do share the Printer Serial number via Private message so we can check for the ink shipment and help you better.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
