When printing and copying there are horizontal lines across the page. We’ve checked the ink levels and reset the printer, but it’s still printing badly.  See below for a copy of the demo page.

Hi @Sarahdhoward,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Horizontal lines across the page when printing or copying on an HP Envy Photo 6230 can be caused by several issues. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to address this problem.

Clean the printhead: Sometimes, the printhead may be clogged with dried ink or debris, which can cause streaks or lines on the printouts. Most HP printers have a built-in printhead cleaning utility that you can access through the printer's control panel or the printer software on your computer.

  • On the printer: Look for a "Tools" or "Setup" menu on the printer's display panel. Navigate to the option that says something like "Clean Printhead" or "Maintenance" and follow the on-screen instructions to run the cleaning cycle.
  • Through software: If your printer is connected to a computer, you can also initiate printhead cleaning through the HP printer software installed on your computer. Look for options like "Maintenance," "Tools," or "Utilities" and select the printhead cleaning option.

Check the ink cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink levels. Low ink levels or improperly seated cartridges can cause printing issues.

  • Open the printer cover and check each cartridge. If any cartridge is low on ink, replace it with a new one.
  • Make sure all cartridges are securely clicked into place.

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report: HP printers often have a diagnostic tool to print a quality report. This report can help you identify specific areas or colors that are affected by the issue.

  • Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report from the printer’s control panel or the HP printer software on your computer.
  • Examine the report for any horizontal lines, streaks, or missing colors.

Align the printhead (if available): Some HP printers have an alignment option that ensures the printhead is properly aligned for optimal print quality.

  • Look for "Printhead Alignment" or similar options in the printer’s settings menu on the control panel or in the printer software on your computer.
  • Follow the instructions to align the printhead.

Check paper and print settings: Improper paper handling or incorrect print settings can also cause printing issues.

  • Ensure that the paper loaded in the printer tray matches the paper type and size settings in the print driver or on the printer’s control panel.
  • Adjust print settings such as quality mode (e.g., draft, normal, best) to see if changing settings improves print quality.

Perform a reset: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you can try performing a reset of the printer.

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  • Test print again to see if the issue is resolved.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the horizontal lines issue on your HP Envy Photo 6230 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
