I run a small home sticker business printing off stickers. The last couple of weeks, all of my stickers with a lot of black are printing with horizontal streaks in them and they look terrible. When running the test page, it looks fine. I ran multiple cleanings and realignment, ink was full, but I bought a new cartridge anyways and it is still streaking. My warranty is still good, but I’d like to fix it if at all possible as I use my printer daily.IMG_4397.jpeg

Hi @csweet98,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Horizontal streaks in black graphics can be frustrating, especially when you rely on your printer for your sticker business. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to help resolve the issue.

Check Print Settings

  • Ensure you're using the correct print settings for your stickers.
    • In your print dialog, set the Print Quality to Best.
    • Ensure the Media Type matches the type of paper you’re using.

Inspect the Paper

  • Use high-quality, compatible sticker paper. Low-quality paper can affect ink absorption and lead to streaks.
  • Check for any warping or curling of the paper, as this can interfere with the printing process.

Perform Manual Cleaning

Sometimes, automated cleaning doesn’t clear all clogs. Try manually cleaning the ink cartridge contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the black ink cartridge.
  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe:
    • The copper-colored contacts on the cartridge.
    • The area where the cartridge sits inside the printer.
  • Let the cartridge and printer contacts dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

Run a Test Print in High-Contrast Black

  • Print a solid black square or a gradient from black to white to check if the streaks persist across all tones of black.
  • If streaks appear consistently, it may indicate a more complex issue with the printhead.

Perform a Hard Reset

Sometimes, the printer’s internal memory needs resetting:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 5-10 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Firmware Updates

Ensure the printer’s firmware is up to date:

  • Use the HP Smart app or the HP website to check for updates.
  • Install any updates and test print again.

Consider External Factors

  • Humidity or temperature changes in your workspace can affect printing quality.
  • Ensure the printer is on a flat, stable surface

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
