I have 2 HP genuine print cartridges. When I installed the cartridges, the printer displayed an error message saying the cartridges cannot be used, It can only be used with an older generation printer. Is there a way I can override this error message and use the outdated cartridges, even at a degraded print output

Hi @bassvista, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Please try these steps,
Check Cartridge Compatibility
- Make sure your cartridges are the correct model for your printer. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 uses HP 952, 952XL cartridges in your region.
Try Downgrading the Printer Firmware
If your printer recently updated its firmware, it may have blocked older cartridges. You can try rolling back the firmware to a previous version:
- Check HP's official website for an older firmware version.
- Disable automatic updates to prevent the printer from reinstalling the new firmware.
Reset the Printer:
- Remove all cartridges from the printer.
- Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 10-15 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
- Reinstall the cartridges and see if the error persists
Check HP Instant Ink Enrollment
If your printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink, it may not accept non-Instant Ink cartridges. You may need to unenroll from the service if you want to use standard cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
