My printer will only print in black ink, the color cartridges are all new and full.  Is there a way to get the printer to print colors?

Hi @DeeA2Z,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer is only printing in black ink despite having new and full color cartridges, there are several troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that the print settings on your computer are configured to print in color. Here’s how to check:
    • Open the document or image you want to print.
    • Press Ctrl + P (or go to File > Print) to open the print dialog box.
    • Look for an option such as "Preferences" or "Properties" depending on your printer model.
    • In the preferences or properties window, look for a setting related to color options. Make sure it is set to print in color rather than grayscale or black and white.

Printer Driver Settings:

  • Sometimes, printer drivers can override application settings. To ensure the printer is set to print in color:
    • Go to the Control Panel on your computer.
    • Navigate to Devices and Printers.
    • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer and select Printing Preferences.
    • Again, ensure that the color settings are correctly configured. Look for options like "Color" or "Print in Color" and make sure they are selected.

Check Cartridge Installation:

  • Open the printer cover and verify that the color cartridges are correctly installed. Sometimes, cartridges might not be seated properly, which can prevent the printer from detecting them.

Print a Test Page:

  • Most printers have a built-in test page feature that can help diagnose printing issues.
    • Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel.
    • Right-click on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028 printer and select Printer Properties.
    • Look for a button or tab that says "Print Test Page" and click on it.
    • This will print a test page directly from the printer, which should include color elements if the printer is working correctly.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve issues related to printing.

Check Ink Levels:

  • Even though your cartridges are new, it’s worth checking the ink levels through the printer’s control panel or the printer software on your computer. This can confirm that the cartridges are being recognized and are functioning properly.

Restart Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, simply restarting both the printer and your computer can resolve communication issues between the devices.

No black ink, wrong colors, other print quality issues

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
