I'd like help to override instant ink.  I canceled my instant ink subscription.  I now want to use cartridges that are not HP.  My printer, the HP Officeject 9010, refers to my new cartridges (Not HP) as "altered or cloned," and rejected my print command.

Welcome to the HP Community --

Unfortunately, Cartridge Protection is not what you believe it to be.

Cartridge Protection is not related to the Dynamic Security measures meant to ensure only HP chipped cartridges are used in the printer.

=============================

Cartridge Protection

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Supplies > Supply Settings > Cartridge Protection = OFF or ON

The Cartridge Protection feature allows cartridges to be permanently protected for use in only one fleet of products or product to help prevent theft. If, after cartridges have been protected, they are moved to a device outside the fleet (fleet based) or to a different printer (printer based), these cartridges will be identified as protected and will have to be replaced to continue printing.

Note:

When you turn on this feature, all cartridges installed in the printer will be protected. However, if you turn off this feature again, these cartridges will remain protected. Only cartridges installed afterwards will not have cartridge protection enabled.

HP Printers - Dynamic Security Enabled Printers

Excerpted from the document

HP printers are designed to work with original HP ink and toner cartridges. As is standard in the printing business, HP printers use a process to authenticate cartridges. In certain HP printers, this authentication process includes dynamic security measures. Dynamic security relies on the printer’s ability to communicate with the security chips or electronic circuitry on the cartridges. HP uses dynamic security measures to protect the quality of our customer experience, maintain the integrity of our printing systems, and protect our intellectual property.”

Dynamic security

Dynamic security equipped printers are intended to work only with cartridges that have new or reused HP chips or electronic circuitry. The printers use the dynamic security measures to block cartridges using non-HP chips or modified or non-HP electronic circuitry. * Original HP cartridges that retain the original HP chip or electronic circuitry enable the refilling, reuse, or remanufacturing of the cartridge and are unaffected by dynamic security.

Datasheet / Quickspecs

Note

I could not find a Datasheet for the Non-Pro model -

The following is typical of all the Datasheets for this series.

Excerpted

This printer is intended to work only with cartridges that have a
new or reused HP chip, and it uses dynamic security measures
to block cartridges using a non-HP chip. Periodic rmware
updates will maintain the effectiveness of these measures and
block cartridges that previously worked. A reused HP chip
enables the use of reused, remanufactured, and relled
cartridges. More at: http://www.hp.com/learn/ds

Thank you for the information.  It looks like you've answered this question before.  I discovered that the non-HP cartridges work in the OfficeJet versions that are not "e."  I guess I'm stuck with HP ink.
