I wanted to try cheaper ink to see if theres a difference as printing loads past exams for daughter but now its blocked as not HP and i cant afford to waste this ink and no time to buy HP. I have read the following but cannot find the toolbox for protection

  1. Click on “Devices and Printers”.
  2. From the list, click on your printer and double click it to open “Settings”.
  3. Find the option “Estimated Ink Levels” and click on it to open the HP Toolbox window.
  4. Click on “Cartridge protection”.
  5. In that tab, click on the button “Disable HP Cartridge Protection”.

Hi @Helpmum50,

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

HP doesn't recommend using third-party ink cartridges because they can cause problems with your printer. These cartridges may not work as well as the original HP ones, leading to poor print quality or even damage to your printer. The printer and the ink are designed to work together, so using third-party ink can cause long-term issues, like damaging the printhead or other parts.
