Hi @reedclancy,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025, like other HP printers, is designed to complete its initial setup using the setup cartridges that came with it. Unfortunately, bypassing this error is challenging, as HP locks the printer's firmware to ensure setup cartridges are used during the first initialization.
However, here are some steps you can try.
Reset the Printer:
- Unplug the printer while it's powered on.
- Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Restart the printer and check if it recognizes the new cartridges. This may occasionally reset the cartridge detection mechanism.
Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the new cartridges you purchased are genuine HP cartridges compatible with your model. Non-HP cartridges or refills may still not be accepted in place of setup cartridges.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
