Hi @Loren77,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

Changing the paper type on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283cdw can feel like preparing for the perfect print. Let’s walk through it in a sensory-rich way to get those heat transfer sheets just right for your project.

1. Feel the Texture of Your Paper First

  • Hold the matte photo paper in your hands, its cool, slightly rough surface hinting at how special it is. You’re about to help the printer handle it properly.
  • Imagine the difference between this and regular paper—the printer needs to be told that it's about to work with something a little more demanding.

2. Access the Printer Settings on Your Computer

  • Click with purpose through your settings. In Windows, feel your finger pressing Ctrl + P to bring up the Print menu from any document.
  • You’re diving into the finer details now. Click on Printer Properties (or Printer Preferences)—the heart of your printer’s setup, where you can tell it exactly what’s coming.

3. Select the Paper Type

  • Under the Paper/Quality tab, each click brings you closer to tailoring the settings. Feel the smooth scrolling under your finger as you look for the Media Type or Paper Type option.
  • Choose Matte Photo Paper or something similar (like Cardstock, depending on the options available). Imagine how the printer adjusts, like it’s preparing to handle the thicker, more textured paper you’re feeding it.

4. Adjust the Tray Settings on the Printer Itself

  • Now move to your printer. Lift the paper tray—a solid, reassuring click—and place the matte paper inside. Run your fingers along the edges of the tray to feel how the guides hug the paper to keep it steady.
  • On the printer control panel, tap the screen gently to access Settings. You’re guiding the machine with each press. Go to Tray Settings, then select the correct paper type—this time, Matte or a similar option.

5. Test and Feel the Result

  • As you press Print, you can almost hear the mechanics inside shift to handle the new paper. The paper runs through the heated rollers, and the scent of the fresh print fills the air.
  • Feel the warmth of the transfer sheet as it comes out. Run your hand across the surface—did the print come out the way you wanted?

With these steps, you should have the perfect print on your heat transfer sheets! If anything doesn’t feel right along the way, we can adjust settings further.

Let me know how it goes!
