How to change the setting of HP Printer from Instant Ink to regular Cartridge. We bought an office furniture set online and it comes along with a HP Envy 5055 Printer. We are trying to subscribe to Instant Ink  because the previous owner has set the printer to Instant Ink. However, we couldn't complete the enrollment. I'm now thinking to change/ reset the printer to regular cartridge.

Hi @BuknoyBurichi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand you received an HP ENVY 5055 All-in-One Printer as part of an office furniture purchase and are having trouble enrolling in HP Instant Ink because it was previously enrolled by the former owner. You’d now like to switch the printer to use regular (non-Instant Ink) cartridges.

Step 1: Use Standard Ink Cartridges

Instant Ink cartridges are subscription-locked and will not work if the associated subscription is inactive. To use the printer without Instant Ink:

  1. Remove the Instant Ink cartridges (they typically say "Instant Ink" on the label).
  2. Install brand-new standard HP 65 or HP 65XL ink cartridges (black and tri-color).
These are regular retail cartridges available online or in stores.

Step 2: (Optional) Factory Reset the Printer

To clear any remaining settings from the previous owner (including Wi-Fi and HP account association), a factory reset is recommended.

⚠️ This step is optional but helpful, especially if you're experiencing setup issues.

To reset the printer:

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. On the home screen, tap the Settings (gear icon).
  3. Go to Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  4. Confirm the reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
