HI @Roseguy4U,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Installing an ink cartridge in an older HP DeskJet 4500 printer can be straightforward, but if you're having trouble, here's a detailed step-by-step guide to help you:
1. Prepare for Installation
Turn on the Printer:
- Ensure that your HP DeskJet 4500 is powered on. This will move the print head to the center of the printer for easy access.
Open the Printer’s Cover:
- Open the top cover of the printer. This is usually where the ink cartridges are located. In some models, you may need to open a front panel or access door.
2. Locate the Ink Cartridges
- Find the Cartridges:
- The ink cartridges are housed in the print head assembly, which should be in the center of the printer once the cover is open.
3. Remove Old Ink Cartridges
Press Down on the Cartridge:
- If the old cartridges are still installed, gently press down on the cartridge to release it from its slot.
Remove the Cartridge:
- Pull the cartridge out of its slot and set it aside.
4. Prepare New Ink Cartridge
Unpack the Cartridge:
- Take the new HP black ink cartridge out of its packaging. Be careful not to touch the ink nozzles or copper contacts on the cartridge.
Remove Protective Tape:
- Peel off any protective tape or plastic strips from the cartridge. These are usually on the contacts or nozzles of the cartridge. Do not touch the metal contacts.
5. Install the New Ink Cartridge
Insert the Cartridge:
- Align the new ink cartridge with the slot. You should be able to tell where it fits based on its shape.
Slide the Cartridge into Place:
- Gently insert the cartridge into the slot at a slight angle. Push it firmly but carefully until it clicks into place. You should hear a click when the cartridge is properly seated.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
