Hi @JS721,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Great question! Ink cartridges can dry out if not stored properly, but with a few simple steps, you can keep them fresh until you’re ready to use them:

Best Practices to Prevent Drying Out

  1. Keep them sealed
    • If the cartridges are still in their original packaging, leave them sealed. The packaging is designed to maintain humidity and prevent ink from drying.

  2. Store in a cool, dry place
    • Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, or very cold environments. Ideal temperature: 15°C–30°C (59°F–86°F).

  3. Maintain an upright position
    • Store cartridges in the same orientation as they would sit in the printer. This helps prevent ink from settling unevenly.

  4. Avoid exposure to the air
    • If you’ve opened a cartridge, place it in an airtight container or zip-lock bag with a slightly damp paper towel (not touching the cartridge) to maintain humidity.

  5. Do not refrigerate
    • Extreme cold can damage the ink chemistry and cause condensation issues later.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
