Hi @MsProfessional,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 printer and the black ink cartridge. If you've already replaced the cartridge with a new one and followed the troubleshooting steps but are still encountering the error, you can try the following additional steps to resolve the issue.
Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that you have removed any protective tape or plastic covering from the new black ink cartridge. Sometimes, these tapes can block the ink flow or contacts.
Clean the Cartridge Contacts:
a. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
b. Open the cartridge access door and carefully remove the black ink cartridge.
c. Check the cartridge contacts (the copper-colored dots) for any dirt, debris, or ink residue.
d. Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dipped in distilled water. Ensure they are dry before reinserting the cartridge.
Reset the Printer:
a. Turn off the printer.
b. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
c. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
d. Plug the power cord back into the printer.
e. Turn on the printer and see if the error message persists.
Update Printer Firmware:
a. Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model.
b. Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.
c. Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware.
Perform a Hard Reset:
a. Turn off the printer.
b. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
c. Wait for about a minute.
d. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
e. Check if the error message is resolved.
Remember to handle the ink cartridges carefully and avoid touching the ink nozzles or electrical contacts to prevent further issues. Additionally, make sure you're using genuine HP ink cartridges, as third-party cartridges may sometimes cause compatibility problems.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
