Product: HP printer desk jet 4100e

In a HP desk jet 4100e printer, I want to print with only one cartridge - colour HP 305 cartridge. I am leaving blank ink cartridge slot empty. When trying to print, it shows an error is printer cartridge is empty. 
Please guide with settings to override and print.
