I have gone on my computer and disabled using only HP ink cartridges, yet when i install a non HP cartridge my printer gives me the error message that i can only use HP cartridges.
How do i get my computer to tell my printer I don't want to use HP cartridges?
Thanks!

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Community! 🎉
I’m here to help you troubleshoot your issue and get things back on track. Just follow these steps below, and we’ll have you running smoothly in no time:
HP printers block third-party cartridges due to built-in security features called "dynamic security." This prevents non-HP or refilled cartridges from working properly. The printer may show a "cartridge blocked" message.
Why it happens:
- HP wants to ensure quality and protect the printer from damage.
To fix the issue:
- Restart the Printer: Turn it off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
- Check for Updates: Open the HP software (HP Smart App) and make sure the printer has the latest firmware.
- Disable Cartridge Protection: In the printer settings, turn off "Cartridge Protection" if enabled.
Use HP Genuine Cartridges:
Switch to HP-branded ink for better quality, reliability, and fewer issues.
Clean Cartridge and Contacts:
- Turn off and unplug the printer.
- Remove the cartridge, clean the contacts with a soft cloth.
- Reinsert the cartridge and try printing.
Reset Printer to Factory Settings:
- Go to the printer’s Settings menu.
- Select "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Reset" to clear any blockages.
