I don’t need color ink at all, but my printer is still not letting me print in just black-and-white since my color ink cartridge is empty.

Hi @Williams1515, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP DeskJet 3639 supports Single Cartridge Mode, which allows you to print using only one cartridge (either black or color). If your printer is not letting you print with just the black cartridge, try the following steps:

Enable Single Cartridge Mode Manually

Remove the empty color cartridge

  • Open the printer's cartridge access door.
  • Take out the color ink cartridge.
  • Close the cartridge access door.

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cable for about 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Try Printing Again

  • The printer should now enter Single Cartridge Mode automatically.
  • Ensure you set the print settings to Black & White (Grayscale) in the print dialog before printing.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
