Hi @Daggysocky,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Smart Tank Plus 651 printer printing too light may be related to either the ink levels or a printer setting. Since the printer is only two days old, let's go through a few steps to resolve the issue:

Check Ink Levels:

  • Ensure the ink tank is filled properly. The printer may not print with full ink saturation if any of the tanks are low or if the ink is not flowing correctly.

Print Head Alignment:

  • Even though you've cleaned the print heads, it's still good to try an alignment to make sure the printer is optimized. You can perform the alignment from the printer's control panel or the HP Smart app.

Quality Settings:

  • Check the print quality settings in the printer preferences. Ensure it's not set to a low-quality print setting (e.g., Draft mode). You can adjust this through the printer properties on your PC or the printer control panel.

Use Genuine Ink:

  • Make sure you are using the ink that came with the printer or any recommended HP ink for the Smart Tank Plus series. Non-genuine ink can sometimes cause issues.

Check for Software Updates:

  • Ensure the printer firmware and software are up to date. Sometimes, new updates can fix bugs or issues related to print quality.

Test with Different Paper:

  • Print on different paper types to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, the paper can affect the ink distribution.

Run a Printer Diagnostic:

  • Run a diagnostic from the HP Smart app or printer control panel to identify any other issues that may be affecting print quality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
