I have seen this question posted before, but I can't see any responses. My HP 8020 Pro will not print color. New cartridges, alignment and cleaned print head several times. Removed printer from computer and reinstalled drivers. Nothing works. Any suggestions appreciated. I am a computer tech and have rebuilt laserjet printers and before i take this printer apart, I need some ideas of where i am going. Thanks.

Hi @Tractor3020
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 8020 Pro is not printing in color despite having new cartridges, proper alignment, and clean print heads, here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try before considering disassembly:
1. Check Color Settings
- Ensure that the print settings on your computer are configured to print in color:
- Go to Printers & Scanners in your system settings.
- Select your HP 8020 Pro, then click on Manage and Printing Preferences.
- Ensure that the Color option is selected instead of Grayscale or Black and White.
2. Print a Test Page
- Print a test page directly from the printer’s control panel to see if it prints in color. If it does, the issue may be software-related.
3. Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can help diagnose and fix common printing issues.
4. Check Ink Levels
- Even with new cartridges, check the ink levels again through the printer’s display or the HP software on your computer. Sometimes cartridges can be defective or not seated properly.
5. Perform a Print Head Cleaning
- If you haven't already, perform a print head cleaning via the printer's control panel or through the HP software. This may help if there are any clogs.
6. Update Firmware
- Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer. Go to the HP Support website and see if any updates are listed for your model.
7. Use Different Software
- Try printing from different applications to rule out software issues. Sometimes specific applications may not handle color printing correctly.
8. Reset the Printer
- Perform a factory reset on the printer to clear any internal errors. Refer to the printer's manual for the reset procedure.
9. Inspect the Print Head
- If you feel comfortable doing so, inspect the print head for any blockages or damage. Ensure that the print head is moving freely and not stuck.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
