Hi @MattyFrizz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Envy 5000 series printer is not printing red ink and is only printing in yellow instead, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you diagnose and fix the problem:
1. Check Ink Cartridges
Verify Ink Levels:
- Ensure that the ink levels in both the color and black cartridges are sufficient. Even if they appear to be half full, there may still be a problem.
Inspect Cartridges:
- Check the magenta (red) cartridge for any visible issues like leaks, cracks, or damage.
- Remove the cartridge and clean the contacts gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly dampened with distilled water.
Reinstall Cartridges:
- After cleaning, reinstall the cartridges securely in their respective slots.
2. Run Printer Maintenance
Print Quality Diagnostic:
- Print a diagnostic page or a print quality report from the printer’s control panel or HP Smart app to see if the issue is visible in the test patterns. This can help identify if the problem is with the cartridge or the printer.
Clean Printheads:
- Perform a printhead cleaning through the printer’s maintenance menu. This process can often resolve issues with missing colors.
- Go to Printer Settings on the control panel or HP Smart app.
- Select Tools or Maintenance and choose Clean Printheads or a similar option.
Align Printheads:
- Run a printhead alignment process, which can be done through the printer’s settings. Proper alignment helps ensure that all colors are printed accurately.
3. Check for Firmware Updates
Update Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve printer performance.
- Open the HP Smart app or visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest firmware for your model.
4. Check Printer Settings
- Verify the print settings in your print dialog box or HP Smart app. Make sure you are printing in color and that no settings are set to print only in black and white or grayscale.
- Ensure you are using the correct paper type and print quality settings. Sometimes, incorrect paper settings can affect print output.
5. Inspect Printer Components
- The printhead nozzles may be clogged. Use the printer’s built-in cleaning functions or manually clean the printhead if accessible.
- Check if the magenta ink is flowing properly by inspecting the ink cartridge and printhead areas.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
