Hi @vicdeconqueror,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When your HP LaserJet Pro M15a shows a caution sign and rejects a new cartridge, it can be due to a variety of issues. Here's a troubleshooting guide to help you resolve the problem:
1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
- Check Model: Ensure that the new cartridge is the correct model for your HP LaserJet Pro M15a. The M15a uses HP 48A toner cartridges, so confirm that your replacement is compatible.
- Check Authenticity: If you’re using a third-party or refilled cartridge, consider that it might not be fully compatible or might be defective. HP recommends using genuine HP toner cartridges.
2. Inspect the Cartridge
- Remove and Reinstall: Carefully remove the new cartridge from the printer. Check for any protective tape or packaging material that might still be attached. Reinstall the cartridge firmly, ensuring it clicks into place.
- Check for Damage: Inspect the cartridge for any visible damage or defects. If the cartridge is damaged, it might need to be replaced.
3. Clean Contacts
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Gently clean the electrical contacts on the toner cartridge using a soft, lint-free cloth. Also, clean the contacts inside the printer where the cartridge makes contact.
- Avoid Touching Drum: Be careful not to touch the drum or toner inside the cartridge, as oils from your fingers can affect print quality.
4. Reset the Printer
- Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can reset the printer’s internal sensors.
5. Check for Firmware Updates
- Update Firmware: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check the HP Support website for any available updates for your model.
6. Check Printer Settings
- Printer Status: Ensure that the printer settings do not have any restrictions or errors that might be causing the issue. Use the printer’s control panel to navigate through the settings if possible.
7. Try a Different Cartridge
- Test Another Cartridge: If possible, try installing a different toner cartridge that you know works with the HP LaserJet Pro M15a. This can help determine if the issue is with the cartridge itself or the printer.
8. Reset to Factory Defaults
- Factory Reset: As a last resort, you might consider resetting the printer to factory settings. This can be done through the printer’s control panel. Note that this will erase any custom settings.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
