Hi @DJC1942,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e printer is rejecting replacement ink cartridges, it can be frustrating. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Cartridge Compatibility

  • Verify Cartridge Model: Ensure that the replacement cartridges are the correct model for your printer. Refer to your printer’s manual or HP’s website to confirm compatibility.

2. Check Cartridge Installation

  • Proper Installation: Make sure the cartridges are installed correctly. Remove the cartridge and reinstall it, making sure it clicks into place firmly.
  • Orientation: Ensure that the cartridge is oriented correctly. Each cartridge slot is labeled with the color it should hold.

3. Clean the Cartridge Contacts

  • Power Off Printer: Turn off and unplug the printer before cleaning.
  • Clean Contacts: Gently wipe the contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer’s cartridge slot with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. Allow everything to dry completely before reinstalling the cartridges.

4. Check for Protective Tape

  • Remove Tape: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covering the contacts of the new cartridges has been removed.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update Firmware: Go to HP's official website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility issues with new cartridges.

6. Reset Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

7. Try Different Cartridges

  • Test New Cartridges: If you have another set of replacement cartridges, try using them. It’s possible that the new cartridges are defective.

8. Perform Printer Diagnostic

  • Use HP Printer Tools: HP printers often come with diagnostic tools. Open the HP Smart app or use the printer’s control panel to run diagnostics.

9. Verify Ink Cartridge Authenticity

  • HP Genuine Cartridges: Make sure the cartridges are genuine HP products. Some non-HP or refilled cartridges might not be recognized by the printer.

10. Printer Warranty

  • Check Warranty: If your printer is still under warranty, HP support might be able to offer a repair or replacement if it’s determined that the issue is with the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
