hp Smart Tank 6001

I paid for a digital download of graduation pictures and loaded the digital images into Photoshop to edit and crop.  The colors of the images on my screen in Photoshop appear true to life.  When I print the images using my HP Smart Tank 6001 printer, the purple on the graduation gown and tam appear as royal blue.  However, the purple carpet and purple drape over the speaker's podium appear the correct purple color.  I have tried using different photo paper with the same result.  I printed a Print Quality Diagnostic Page and all looked okay on the report.  I am not sure what else to try to get the color in the prints to look true to life.  I would appreciate any suggestions.

Edit:  I printed an image of the same person wearing the same gown and tam taken with a cell phone using the HP Smart Tank 6001 printer.  The colors on the printed image are true to life.  Both of the pictures (the purchased image and the image taken with the cell phone) show true to life colors on my monitor.

Hi @mirasaui,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are facing an issue with photo colors miss match from your printer.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

 1) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

2) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

3) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

4) Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Power on the printer

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

Irwin6,

Thank you for your reply to my inquiry.  I upgraded the printer firmware and ran all the diagnostic tests and reports (Printer print quality, alignment page, etc.) as suggested in the links you provided.  All the reports came back fine.  I cleaned and aligned the print heads anyway to be sure.  I did not replace the printheads as I did not feel that was necessary.  The printer is only a year old and has only been under light use, and that mostly using plain paper.   The ink levels are also fine, the tanks more than half full.

As to paper, I did a test run on plain paper before using photo  paper and the purple on the graduation gown and tam printed as royal blue, the same as it is printing using photo paper.  I double checked the printer and software settings for the paper types.  All are set to the right settings.  I have not yet tried HP premium photo paper, but have some on order.  I was using Kodak high gloss Ultima picture paper and Office Depot Brilliant Matte professional photo paper, both for ink jet printers.  They were photo papers that I had been using on a previous Epson photo printer that died.  The images were shot by a professional photographer hired by the university at my son's law school graduation ceremony.  On the website, I could choose to buy prints or purchase the downloadable image files.  I purchased the files as I purchased prints from his undergraduate ceremony and they were destroyed by a water leak and could not be replaced.  Unfortunately, it seems I will need to also purchase prints this time as I cannot reproduce the colors of the original image from the photographer with the HP printer.  If you can think of anything else I can try, I will appreciate it.

Thanks again,

Mirasaui
