Hp Smart Tank 7605. Having followed the process I filled all the ink tanks and now have continuous message "checking the ink tanks"

Printer still works from HP Smart, except the Copy function.

If your HP printer is stuck "checking the ink tanks," the most common solution is to remove and reinsert the ink cartridges, as this often resets the printer's internal memory and can resolve recognition issues with the cartridges; you can also try cleaning the cartridge contacts with a slightly damp cloth or alcohol swab. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Here are a few other steps to try if the issue persists: [1, 3, 5]
  • Power cycle the printer: Turn off the printer completely, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. [1, 3, 5]
  • Check for any visible damage: Inspect the cartridges for any physical damage or leaks. [2, 3, 4]
  • Align the cartridges: Open the cartridge access door and carefully re-align the cartridges to ensure they are properly seated. [2, 4, 6]
  • Check for firmware updates: Update your printer's firmware to the latest version via the printer settings or HP support website. [1, 3, 6]
  • Clean the cartridge contacts: Use a clean, dry cloth or a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to gently wipe the contacts on both the cartridge and the printer. [3, 4]
  • Check for incompatible cartridges: Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges that are compatible with your printer model. [2, 3, 6]
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you might need to: [1, 6, 7]
  • Contact HP Support: Reach out to HP customer service for further troubleshooting or potential hardware issues. [1, 6, 7]
  • Perform a factory reset: Consult your printer manual for specific instructions on how to perform a factory reset. [1, 3, 8]
