@zdwqueen, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP Smart Tank 7000 printer has stopped printing red ink, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Step 1: Check the Ink Levels
Ensure that the red (magenta) ink tank is not empty or critically low.
- Check the ink tank visually.
- If the magenta ink is low or empty, refill the tank according to the printer's instructions.
Step 2: Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page
Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page to identify issues with printhead performance.
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Information button for five seconds to enable support mode.
- Press and hold the Color Copy button for three seconds.
- A print quality diagnostic page prints.
Check the printed page for any missing colors or streaks in the print quality.
Step 3: Clean the Printhead
If you notice missing colors, you may need to clean the printhead.
- On the printer control panel, access the Troubleshooting menu.
- Select Print Quality and then Clean Printhead.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cleaning process.
Step 4: Align the Printhead
Sometimes alignment issues can cause color printing problems.
- Access the Troubleshooting menu from the printer control panel.
- Select Print Quality and then Align Printhead.
- Follow the instructions to align the printhead.
Step 5: Check for Software Settings
Ensure that the printer settings in your software are correct and that the color options are enabled.
- In the printer properties dialog box of your printing software, ensure that the color option is enabled.
- Check that high-quality color printing settings are selected.
Step 6: Perform a Reset
A simple reset can sometimes resolve printing issues.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
- Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
