Hi @Philip-1951

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Oh no! If you accidentally added blue ink into the black ink tank on your HP 5105 tank printer, it could cause some printing issues. The printer uses specific color inks in each tank, so adding the wrong ink might affect your print quality or even damage the printhead over time. Here's what you can do to fix the situation:

1. Stop Using the Printer

If you haven’t already, stop using the printer to avoid any further mixing of ink or damage to the printhead.

2. Check the Ink Tanks

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer to access the ink tanks. Carefully remove the blue ink from the black ink tank.
    • If you’ve already added a substantial amount of blue ink, you might need to gently clean the black ink tank and its components.

3. Clean the Ink Tanks

  • Gently clean the black ink tank and its surrounding area with a lint-free cloth to ensure no ink is left over from the blue ink.
  • You can also lightly dampen the cloth with distilled water to wipe down the area where the blue ink may have spilled or mixed.

4. Replace with the Correct Black Ink

  • Once the black ink tank is clean and free of blue ink, reinsert the correct black ink cartridge into the tank.
  • Ensure that you’re using the correct HP ink for your specific printer model (HP 5105).

5. Run Printer Cleaning Cycle

After fixing the ink issue, you may want to run a cleaning cycle to ensure the printer’s printhead is properly primed with the correct ink. This helps flush out any residual ink and ensures good print quality.

  • You can typically run a cleaning cycle through the printer’s menu or the HP software on your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
