When I open the lid to my Hp7001 smart tank printer the print head does not move to center. I have a bad head and need to change it, but can’t get it to move to the point.

Hi @Stack-1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the print head on your HP Smart Tank 7001 is not moving to the center when you open the lid, try these steps.

  • Power Cycle the Printer: Turn off the printer, wait for about 60 seconds, and then turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple power cycle can reset the printer's position.
  • Open and Close the Lid: With the printer on, open the lid as you normally would to access the print head. Some printers require the lid to be opened for a few moments before the print head moves to the center.
  • Manual Movement (If Allowed): If the print head remains stuck, some HP printers allow gentle manual movement of the print head when powered off. If this is possible, carefully slide the print head to the center. Note: Be cautious to avoid damaging the internal mechanisms, and only do this if there’s no resistance.
  • Firmware Reset (If Available): Check the printer’s control panel for an option to reset or recalibrate the printer. Some models may allow a firmware reset that will realign the print head.
  • Update Firmware: If possible, connect the printer to HP Smart or HP’s website to check for firmware updates. Occasionally, firmware updates can resolve issues with the print head movement.

If these steps do not work, the printer may have a mechanical issue preventing the print head from moving.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
