I have a Lazer Jet Pro CM1415. I am getting this message when I am replacing a HP toner cartridge "Remove shipping locks from cartridge." I did remove the shipping locks. Why am I getting this message?

Hi @SamOrsak ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are getting an error message “Remove shipping locks from cartridge” on your HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 after replacing the toner, even after removing the shipping locks, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Double-Check the Cartridge

  • Verify all shipping locks are removed:
    • Ensure the orange protective tab and plastic tape have been fully removed from the cartridge.
  • Check for any remaining pieces of packaging material, such as tape or plastic clips.

2. Inspect the Printer and Cartridge Area

  • Turn off the printer and open the toner access door.
  • Remove the cartridge and:
    • Look inside the printer for any debris, leftover tape, or broken pieces of the shipping locks that might be stuck.
    • Ensure that the cartridge is properly seated in the correct slot.
  • Reinstall the toner cartridge securely.

3. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

  • Ensure you are using a genuine HP toner cartridge. Non-genuine or refurbished cartridges might cause this issue due to compatibility problems.
  • If in doubt, check the packaging for HP branding or verify the cartridge model number against your printer's specifications.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for 5 minutes.
  • Reconnect the power cable, turn on the printer, and check if the message persists.

5. Update the Printer FirmwareUpdate the firmware on an HP printer

  • If the firmware is outdated, the printer may not correctly recognize the cartridge.
  • Download the latest firmware update for the HP LaserJet Pro CM1415 from HP’s official website.

6. Test with Another Cartridge

  • If you have another compatible toner cartridge available, try installing it to determine if the issue is specific to the current cartridge.

7. Perform a Printer Reset

  • Access the Settings menu on the printer’s display panel.
  • Navigate to Service Menu > Restore Defaults to reset the printer to factory settings. This may clear any persistent error messages.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
