macOS 10.15 Catalina

I have a Smart Tank 6001 and I can only print in B&W. The test page showed Cyan.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 6001 printer is experiencing a color printing issue on macOS 10.15 Catalina. Since your test page showed Cyan, the color ink system might not be entirely faulty, but there could be a configuration issue. Try these steps:

 

1. Check Print Settings:

  • When printing a document, go to File > Print.
  • Click Show Details if necessary.
  • Ensure that Color is selected under Color/Quality settings instead of Black & White or Grayscale.

2. Verify Printer Preferences:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP Smart Tank 6001 and click Options & Supplies.
  • Under Options, ensure that Color Printing is enabled.

3. Check Ink Levels:

  • Open the HP Smart app (if installed) and check the ink levels.
  • If ink levels appear low, refill the cartridges.

4. Clean Printheads:

  • Use the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel to run a Printhead Cleaning cycle.

5. Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for macOS 10.15 Catalina.
  • You may need to reset the printing system:
    • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
    • Right-click on your printer and select Reset Printing System.
    • Re-add the printer and try printing again.

6. Try Another Document or App:

  • Test color printing with different files and apps (e.g., Preview, Word, or a PDF viewer).
  • If only certain apps are printing in black and white, check their print settings.
