@Petelaz, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're unable to run the printhead cleaning or maintenance program on your HP Envy 6455, it could be due to a few common issues. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and restore that functionality:
Check HP Smart App or Printer Software
- Open the HP Smart app (Windows, Mac, iOS, or Android).
- Go to Printer Settings > Print Quality Tools (or Advanced Settings > Printer Toolbox).
- Look for options like Clean Printhead or Align Printer.
- If you don’t see these options, try reinstalling the app or using the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
Access EWS:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer:
On the control panel, press and hold the Information (i) button and the Cancel button at the same time. - Find the printer’s IP address on the page.
- Enter the IP address in your browser to access the Embedded Web Server.
- Go to Tools > Printer Maintenance and look for Clean Printhead.
Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Retry accessing the maintenance functions.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)
- Download from here
- Run it and select your printer.
- Go to Printer Toolbox or Print Quality Tools.
- Try initiating the clean printhead function from there.
Try Maintenance from Windows Control Panel (Windows only)
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on your HP Envy 6455 > Printing Preferences.
- Look for a Maintenance or Services tab.
- Try Cleaning, Aligning, or Testing from here.
Check Firmware & App Version
- Ensure your printer’s firmware is updated.
- You can do this via HP Smart App > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
- Make sure you're using the latest version of HP Smart App.
If All Else Fails:
If none of these options work, you may have a software glitch or printhead hardware issue.
- Try resetting the printer to factory defaults:
- On the printer, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore.
- Choose Restore Factory Defaults (this will reset Wi-Fi settings too).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
