Hi @Kerri1949-_,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To clean the printhead of your HP Officejet Pro 6835 printer, you can follow these steps.
Using the Printer's Built-in Cleaning Function
Turn on the Printer: Make sure your printer is powered on.
Access the Control Panel:
- Tap on the Setup icon (the gear icon) on the printer's control panel.
- Navigate to Tools or Printer Maintenance (the exact wording may vary).
Select Clean Printhead:
- Look for the option labeled Clean Printhead or Clean Printheads.
- Select this option and follow the prompts to start the cleaning process.
Print a Test Page:
- After the cleaning cycle is complete, print a test page to check if the issue is resolved.
Manual Cleaning of the Printhead
If the built-in cleaning does not resolve the issue, you can manually clean the printhead:
Prepare for Cleaning:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Open the printer cover and wait for the printhead to move to the center.
Remove the Ink Cartridges:
- Carefully remove the ink cartridges and set them aside.
Remove the Printhead:
- Locate the printhead assembly and gently lift it out. Refer to your printer manual for specific instructions on removing the printhead, as it may vary slightly.
Clean the Printhead:
- Use a lint-free cloth or paper towel dampened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
- Gently wipe the nozzles and contact points of the printhead to remove any dried ink.
Soak the Printhead (Optional):
- For stubborn clogs, you can soak the printhead in a shallow dish with distilled water or a cleaning solution for a few hours. Ensure that only the nozzle area is submerged.

Dry and Reinstall:
- Allow the printhead to dry completely before reinstalling it into the printer.
- Reinsert the ink cartridges.
Run a Test Print:
- Plug in the printer, turn it on, and print a test page to check if the issue is resolved.
Note:
- Make sure to use genuine HP ink cartridges, as non-genuine cartridges may not work properly.
- Perform printhead cleaning regularly to prevent clogs.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
