Hi @Lydia657,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
A cartridge jam on your HP OfficeJet 4650 usually means the ink cartridge carriage is stuck or obstructed. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you fix it:
Step-by-Step Fix for Cartridge Jam:
1. Turn Off and Unplug the Printer
- Power off the printer.
- Unplug it from the wall and wait 60 seconds.
2. Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door
- Lift the access door until the carriage moves to the center.
- If it doesn’t move, gently try to slide it manually left and right to check for obstructions.
3. Remove Any Jammed Paper
- Use a flashlight to inspect:
- Input tray
- Output tray
- Under the carriage
- Rear access door
- Remove any torn paper or debris.
4. Remove and Reinstall Ink Cartridges
- Gently press down on each cartridge to release it.
- Remove both cartridges.
- Reinsert them firmly until they click into place.
5. Check the Carriage Path
- Make sure the carriage can move freely from side to side.
- If it’s stuck, gently move it and look for any obstructions underneath.
6. Plug In and Reset
- Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector).
- Turn it on and wait for it to initialize.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
