I have a deskjet 2600. All of the sudden it wouldn't read the color ink cartridge. I tried 2 different ones. It also wasn't pulling the paper through correctly. It's 7 years old so I just decided to get a new one. Purchased a 2852e. Set it up and put the new ink cartridges in and it's literally doing the exact same thing! Is this a manufacturing defect or something???? Frustrated:(

I completely understand how frustrating it must be to experience the same issues — ink recognition and paper feed problems — on both your old HP DeskJet 2600 and your brand-new HP DeskJet 2852e. I'm here to help clarify the situation and work toward a resolution.

1. Ink Cartridge Not Recognized

If your new DeskJet 2852e is not detecting the color cartridge, there are a few critical things to check:

• ✅ Only use the “Setup” cartridges that came inside the box with the new printer. These are region-locked and mandatory for the first-time setup.
• ✅ Make sure all packaging is removed from the cartridge, including orange plastic tabs and protective film on the copper contacts.
• ✅ Gently clean the gold contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer with a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

🛑 Note: Cartridges from your old DeskJet 2600 will not work in the DeskJet 2852e — even if they look the same. HP printers use region-specific chips and ink security, and older cartridges are not compatible with newer models.

2. Paper Feed Problem

If your printer is not pulling paper correctly, try the following:

• ✅ Load 10–15 sheets of clean, plain paper (not too much or too little).
• ✅ Make sure the paper guide is snug against the stack.
• ✅ Inspect the paper path for dust, small paper bits, or packaging material.
• ✅ Remove all paper, unplug the printer, tilt it slightly, and gently tap it to see if anything dislodges inside.
